Girls in STEM: Bridging the Gap in Volta Region
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields shape the future—but girls in Ghana are still underrepresented. Despite making up nearly half the school population, only a small percentage pursue STEM careers.
The barriers are clear: lack of role models, gender stereotypes, and limited access to resources. Girls are often encouraged toward “softer” career paths while boys dominate science labs and ICT rooms.
To bridge this gap, GRAYNETWORK promotes mentorship programs where female scientists share their journeys. We also advocate for better STEM resources in schools, especially in rural areas of the Volta Region.
When girls are supported in STEM, they innovate solutions to community challenges—whether it’s clean energy, health tech, or climate resilience. Empowering girls in STEM is not charity; it’s smart investment.
