GRAY Network organized a Safeguarding Training in Ho for its members, board, volunteers, and project community representatives. The training aimed to ensure that everyone working with GRAY Network acts to protect children, youth, and adults at risk from harm, abuse, exploitation, or neglect. In total, 26 participants (10 members, 6 board members, 5 volunteers, and 5 community representatives) took part in the program.
The training was delivered using a Trainer-of-Trainees (ToT) model, equipping participants not only with knowledge of safeguarding standards but also with the skills and confidence to cascade this knowledge to others in their communities, networks, and workspaces. This multiplier effect ensures sustainable ownership of safeguarding practices within GRAY Network and its partners.
Key areas covered included:
- Prevention – how to avoid risks and strengthen safe recruitment practices.
- Awareness – building understanding of safeguarding commitments and responsibilities.
- Reporting – procedures for raising concerns and ensuring accountability.
- Response – how to act promptly and appropriately when safeguarding issues arise.
The training also contributed to the development of GRAY Network’s Safeguarding Policy, setting out clear standards and procedures to guide all staff, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders in protecting children, young people, and adults at risk.
Capacity Strengthened: 26 participants trained as ToTs, ensuring sustainability and knowledge transfer.
- Stronger Safeguarding Culture: Participants gained practical skills to identify, prevent, and respond to safeguarding risks within GRAY Network and their communities.
- Increased Accountability: Clear reporting and redress mechanisms established, strengthening trust in GRAY Network’s systems.
- Community Empowerment: Involving community representatives ensured safeguarding knowledge extended beyond the organization into the wider community.
This initiative reinforces GRAY Network’s commitment to building a safe, inclusive, and accountable environment for all young people, women, and vulnerable groups.
